The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Faculty of Life Sciences, Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institut of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (Prof. Krause/Dr. Wolf), invites applications for a postdoctoral research assistant position at the Cluster of Excellence “Science of Intelligence”.

What are the principles of intelligence, shared by all forms of intelligence, no matter whether artificial or biological, whether robot, computer program, human, or animal? And how can we apply these principles to create intelligent technology? Answering these questions - in an ethically responsible way - is the central scientific objective of the Cluster of Excellence Science of Intelligence (https://www.scioi.de), where researchers from a large number of analytic and synthetic disciplines - artificial intelligence, machine learning, control, robotics, computer vision, behavioral biology, psychology, educational science, neuroscience, and philosophy - join forces to create a multi-disciplinary research program across universities and research institutes in Berlin. Interdisciplinary research projects have been defined (https://www.scienceofintelligence.de/research/projects), which combine analytic and synthetic research and which address key aspects of individual, social, and collective intelligence.

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research within the Cluster Science of Intelligence:

Developing maze-explorations algorithms with the goals to employ the empirical data generated from genetically identical fish

(i) to systematically investigate the explanatory and predictive power of the most important maze-exploration algorithms developed in the robotics literature,

(ii) to develop a new set of bio-inspired algorithmic models of maze-exploration behaviour

Prerequisites:

  • university degree and a PhD degree in Biology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science or related fields
  • strong quantitative skills and a firm background in several of the following topics:
  • laboratory experiments with fish
  • analysis of high-resolution tracking-data
  • machine learning
  • agent-based computer simulations
  • excellent English skills both written and spoken are required
